Growth dynamics in the number of sellers in the Russian MP in 2024.

The number of sellers on Wildberries and Ozon will increase by 1.5 times by the end of 2024.

In December 2023, the two largest marketplaces in Russia - Wildberries and Ozon - employed almost 550,000 sellers (including sellers trading on these marketplaces simultaneously), and by the end of 2024 their number could grow one and a half times and reach 700,000, Forbes reports. ru with reference to data from the Data Insight agency. According to the company's preliminary estimates, in 2023 the volume of the online retail market in Russia exceeded 7.9 trillion rubles (an increase of more than 36%), and the number of orders - 4.5 billion (76%).

Analysts predict that the number of individual entrepreneurs, companies and self-employed people trading on the largest Russian marketplaces will also continue to increase. This will happen due to organic growth and the entry of new sellers onto the platform, as well as due to the resumption of activities of sellers who had previously suspended sales. At the same time, the main driver of positive dynamics will be the “core” of active entrepreneurs for whom sales on marketplaces are their main professional activity. According to Data Insight, Wildberries has the largest number of sellers (56%) selling clothing, shoes and accessories; Ozon has 35% of sellers in this category.

Half of Ozon’s sellers specialize in household goods; on Wildberries, the share of sellers of these products is 34%. In the third largest category, “Beauty and Health”, about 20% of sellers work on both marketplaces. The main share of active sellers are individual entrepreneurs (IEs); as of the beginning of December 2023, they accounted for 82.5% of sellers on Wildberries and 75% on Ozon. The number of self-employed sellers on Ozon increased the most last year - the increase reached 22%. The increase in the remaining groups (companies and individual entrepreneurs) on the two marketplaces averaged 6%. A recent Tinkoff Business study noted that there are more women sellers on marketplaces than men.
